While many praised William’s heartwarming message at the coronation concert, and let me tell you it was beautiful, there were some that were quick to point out that he completely snubbed Queen Camilla, even though it was her big day too.
Prince William’s Speech Focuses On Celebrating His Father During Coronation Concert
The coronation concert was one history making night, with global stars and drones, Miss Piggy, Winnie the Pooh, politicians, and well, royals – so we got icons both real and fictional to make for a very memorable evening.
At one point during the amazing night, Prince William took the stage for his speech: “As my Grandmother said when she was crowned, coronations are a declaration of our hopes for the future. And I know she’s up there, fondly keeping an eye on us. She would be a proud mother. For all that celebrations are magnificent, at the heart of the pageantry is a simple message. Service.”
He continued: “My father’s first words on entering Westminster Abbey yesterday were a pledge of service. It was a pledge to continue to serve. Because for over 50 years, in every corner of the U.K., across the Commonwealth and around the world, he has dedicated himself to serve others, both current and future generations, and those whose memory must not be neglected.”
William kept the speech entirely focused on his father and didn’t make room for any other member of the family. As per usual, it didn’t take long for some to point out that there was no reference to the Queen, even though she was coronated too.
Fans Defend Prince William’s Speech Following Backlash Over Camilla Snub
After the concert, the Mirror wrote an article about the perceived Camilla snub, titled, “William makes comical joke in Charles speech – but completely snubs Camilla.”
One Twitter user replied to the Mirror article, writing, “The last time I checked, it was not a speech recognising Consorts. Prince Philip was not mentioned. The Prince of Wales kept the focus where it should be: on the King, while drawing on the strengths of the past Monarch, who happens to be the King’s mother.”
Another wrote: “This is bleeping ridiculous – his dad was being crowned, it was HIS day…not really Camilla’s. This has to stop.”
