If King Charles Wants Prince Andrew To Vacate From the Royal Lodge, He Has To Do This
At the beginning of this year, it was announced that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle would be vacating their UK base Frogmore Cottage to make space for uncle Andrew who would soon be moving in. However, friends of the Duke insist that he has no intentions of budging from his grand 30-room mansion standing proudly on Windsor grounds.
Charles reportedly wants Andrew to move into the more modest Frogmore Cottage since he can no longer afford to properly maintain Royal Lodge.
As you probably know, Andrew stepped down from public life in 2020 following his Newsnight interview. In 2022, he was further stripped of his roles and patronages when he settled Virginia Guiffre out of court for millions of dollars. Needless to say, he no longer receives public funds.
The Royal Lodge Leash Is In Prince Andrew’s Name, Making It Hard For King Charles To Kick Him Out
According to a source said to be in regular contact with the Duke of York, the only way he would move out of his royal residence is if Charles convinces him of it.
Speaking to The Times, the source said, “The lease is in the duke’s name so no one can take that away from him. It has never been suggested that it could be taken away from him. It’s a long lease with 80 to 90 years left on it.”
They added, “This is a lease between him and the Crown Estate. That’s not a matter for the King. It’s a matter for the chancellor of the exchequer. The only way you could get him to move out would be through an arrangement — he would have to agree.”
The source believes that if Charles tries to force his younger brother Andrew out by cutting off his utilities, it would make him very unpopular within the firm.
At the time when news first emerged that Andrew was told to leave Royal Lodge, a friend of the Duke said that the King was only looking for trouble and that it would be better to let Andrew stay in the property he’s lived in for more than two decades.
