Royal Family News: Kate Middleton is Having a Hugfest
Royal Family news reveals that, according to PEOPLE, this week along the Princess of Wales hugged both Antarctic explorer Captain Preet Chandi and a former history teacher just this past week, presumably in a bid to prove naysayers wrong.
The 41-year-old princess embraced some family faces during engagements this past week. Congratulating Captain Preet Chandi for her Antarctic expedition during a school visit last Wednesday, Kate reportedly greeted the explorer with a big hug. Another notably “huggy” moment came on Thursday during the Prince and Princess of Wales’s visit to Cornwall when Kate reunited with one of her former teachers.
Friend Reveals Kate Middleton is a Big Hugger
After Meghan Markle said in the Netflix docuseries that she was surprised at Kate and Prince William’s excessive decorum behind the scenes, a friend close to Middleton recently reveals that Kate is actually quite affectionate.
“Kate’s a big hugger,” Kate’s friend revealed. “She is warm and friendly and greets everyone with a big hug and kiss. It comes naturally to her to be like that.”
Meghan Markle Recalls Meeting Kate for First Time
In Netflix’s Harry & Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex recalled her first meeting with Kate “in ripped jeans and barefoot” when the Prince and Princess of Wales arrived for dinner (via Daily Mail).
“Like I was a hugger, always been a hugger,” she said. “I didn’t realize that that is really jarring for a lot of Brits. I guess I’d start to understand very quickly that the formality on the outside, carried through on the inside.
“There is a forward-facing way of being and then you close the door and you relax now. But that formality carries over on both sides. And that was surprising to me.”
No One’s Crying Over Prince Harry’s Spilled Tea – At Least Not Officially
The Princess of Wales along with the rest of the Royal Family has kept officially quiet following the release of Prince Harry’s memoir Spare, despite the explosive inferences the book made — from Prince William’s alleged assault of his younger sibling to damaging press leaks. The 38-year-old Duke of Sussex portrayed Middleton as cold towards him and his wife in Spare as well as subsequent interviews.
In an interview with ITV’s Tom Bradby, Harry pointed to how his brother and his wife reacted to his relationship with Meghan – who was divorced as well as biracial. “Some of the things that my brother and sister-in-law — some of the way that they were acting or behaving definitely felt to me as though, unfortunately, that stereotyping was causing a bit of a barrier to them really sort of, you know, introducing or welcoming her in.”
