Kate Middleton Looks Up To Queen Elizabeth As She Prepares To Become Queen Consort
The Royals news and updates tease that Kate Middleton is looking to Queen Elizabeth as her role model as she prepares for her future role as Queen Consort. What has she learned from the 96-year-old record-breaking monarch?
According to Sally Bedell, the Queen’s biographer, the Duchess of Cambridge has learned by observing.
She tells PEOPLE that Kate “knows what resonates. She will have absorbed a lot from this Queen.” She pointed out that despite the 56-year age gap, the Queen and Kate share several key qualifications. They’re both loyal, discrete, and stoical.
The Queen and Kate’s Similarities
They both have a tightly controlled public image, are committed to the throne, and are quiet on controversial political issues. Just like the Queen, Kate also follows the “never complain, never explain” motto.
Kate has never received formal lessons from the Queen. However, historian Sarah Gristwood told PEOPLE that the Queen treated Kate the way she deals with prime ministers.
The Elizabeth: Queen and Crown author noted that the Queen prefers to work and educate through her actions rather than words.
“With her audiences with her prime ministers, if there has been actual advice, it would be a discreet ‘I think that went rather well’ rather than actual instruction,” she explained.
Kate Mirrors The Queen
Kate is willing to adapt to royal life, and she’s been following the Queen for things she’s known for doing. For instance, she wears jewels on loan from the Queen, and she also wears bright colors during royal engagements.
Gristwood explained that what Kate is doing may seem unglamorous and unappealing to some people however, they’re crucial in helping her become successful in the role that she’ll play in the future.
The Queen’s reign will soon end, but it seems like she’s confident that Kate and Prince William will do a good job.
Kate’s Different Approach To Family
Her Majesty and Kate may share a lot of similarities, but they also have differences. For instance, Kate has a different approach to family life. Kate believes that she needs to spend time with her kids, while her majesty had a hard time juggling the role of wife, mother, and as queen, as per Sarah Bedell Smith. The Queen needed the help of her staff to care for her children since she and Prince Philip were usually out to attend official royal engagements.
