Kate Middleton Says Addicts Shouldn't Be Ashamed To Seek Help For Their Mental Distress

Earlier on Sunday, the Princess of Wales, Kate Middleton shared an important message for those struggling in the hold of addiction. She urged them not to be ashamed of their mental condition and told them that they should seek help, as addiction is not their fault.

Kate Middleton Shares Personal Message For People Battling Addiction Alone, “Ask For Help”

Acting in her role as patron of The Forward Trust, the Princess personally appeared in the video for the “Taking Action On Addiction” campaign, in its second year on the first day of Addiction Awareness Week on Sunday, October 30.

“Addiction is a serious mental health condition that can happen to anyone, no matter what age, gender, race or nationality,” Kate, 40, said to the cameras. “As Patron of The Forward Trust, I have met many people who have suffered from the effects of addiction.”

She continued, “Attitudes to addiction are changing. But we are not there yet, and we need to be. Still the shame of addiction is stopping people and families asking for help and people are still tragically losing their lives. We as a society need to recognize that the only way to help those suffering is to try and understand what has led them to addiction, to empathize with them and to be compassionate to their struggles.”

Addressing the people who are battling with addiction, the mom-of-three said: “Please know that addiction is not a choice. No one chooses to become an addict. I want you to know that this is also a serious health condition. Please do not let shame hold you back from getting the help you so desperately need.”

“The charities leading the Taking Action on Addiction Campaign, along with others, are working across the country delivering life-changing work to help people recover and move forward. They are here for you. So please ask for help,” she continued. “I know this was not a choice. Recovery is possible.”

The Princess Of Wales’ Decades Of Dedication To Improving The Life Of Addicts

Anyone who has had a loved one battling with addiction, or have battled with addiction, can relate to the pain and sorrow it can bring to the affected person and those around them.

In June 2021, Kate Middleton was announced as the patron of The Forward Trust, just a month after the organization merged with Action on Addiction.

For a decade now, the royal has been involved in mental health issues and understanding the complexities of the challenge those suffering from it face. Her years of knowledge about addiction and various mental health challenges led to her launching her Early Childhood Foundation. The foundation’s aim is to provide children under the age of five with the tools needed to make them handle stress better in their adult years.
