Carole Middleton Talks “Business Challenges” and Getting Help from the Duchess of Cambridge
SheerLuxe recently reported that the Duchess of Cambridge’s mom, Carole Middleton, sat down for an exclusive interview and discussed her business Party Pieces. According to Carole, she was inspired to launch Party Pieces when she was planning her eldest child’s fifth birthday. After having to put up with “some basic clown plates” for the special occasion, she “realised there was a gap in the market for partyware that wasn’t too expensive, looked good and added a bit of a special touch.”
”Being a mother meant I understood how children’s parties worked from the point of view of the parent organising them, and the children who wanted to enjoy themselves.”
The 67-year-old was driven by the need ”to make it as easy as possible for parents to create the perfect party for their children”. Having gotten the motivation to make a child’s birthday party as magical as possible for low income parents, she set off to launch the business with her husband, Michael, who she gushed about, saying, ”Having a supportive partner or family is so important.”
At the early stages of the business, the couple would do everything themselves – from taking orders to even making deliveries. But as their children grew up, they began to lend a helping hand to move the business forward.
”The children were often there too after school. Partyware was a relatively new idea back then, so we worked hard to build our customer base and relied mostly on the odd letter or phone call for feedback.”
Building the Party Pieces Brand
Years later, after surviving through some high points and low points, the brand has evolved from just selling children’s products. Now they’ve incorporated carefully curating celebration pieces for all kinds of events, including milestone birthdays, anniversaries, graduations, weddings and new babies.
With prices starting from as little as £1.99 to £26.99, Party Pieces offers a versatile range of products, including blue party cups and a stunning balloon arch.
Other products and collections can comfortably cover hen parties, gender reveal parties, Christenings, and many other special days.
To plan the perfect celebration, Carole’s advice to you is to make sure “everyone knows what their job is”, especially if you’ve “got friends and family helping to host the party”.
