Meghan Markle And Prince Harry Welcome A New Family Member
Welcome to your new life, Mamma Mia! When Meghan Markle and Prince Harry learned about a senior beagle saved from a Virginia breeding facility, they didn’t hesitate. And animal rights attorney Shannon Keith gushed about the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s decision to People.
Mia (now known as Mamma Mia), recently became part of Beagle Freedom Project. But because Mia got rescued with puppies, many adopters rushed to take a younger dog. However, Meghan and Harry recognized that senior dogs need homes even more.

“They made a point to adopt a rescue named Mia, who most would overlook,” noted Keith. “Because she is older, has health issues and is traumatized by her past,” Mia truly needed a home. And the animal rights attorney praised Meghan’s and Harry’s “commitment to animal welfare! They have been following up letting us know how well Momma Mia is doing in her new, amazing home!”
Traumatized Senior Beagle Finds Love With Duke And Duchess Of Sussex
Mia traveled a long way before finding her forever home with Meghan, 41, and Harry, 37. After getting rescued, the senior beagle ended up in Maryland with her eight puppies. She then traveled to the Beagle Freedom Project rescue facility in San Fernando Valley, California.
And Keith recalled what happened. “The duchess called me personally,” shared the animal rights attorney. “She calls on my cell with no Caller ID and says, ‘Hey Shannon, this is Meghan.’ We talked for 30 minutes, and I thought, ‘Is this Megan Fox?’ “
However, Keith finally realized that Meghan Markle had made the call. And Prince Harry joined Meghan on a voyage to the rescue center. After playing with Mia in the backyard of the center, they agreed they wanted to take her home.

But Meghan and Harry also showed their understanding of the dog’s needs, noted Us magazine. For instance, Markle emphasized that they did not want a puppy. And she shared, “We want ones we can help who are older.” But Harry insisted on finding any toys that Mia might want to take with her to her new home. “Does she have a favorite toy?” asked the Duke of Sussex.
And so, with Mamma Mia and the dog’s favored toy, Harry and Meghan traveled back to their estate near Santa Barbara, California. Rescue supporters note that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex will now teach their son Archie, 3, and daughter Lilibet, 14 months, what it means to help a rescued pet feel at home.
