Meghan Markle and Prince Harry recently returned from England. But the four-day event didn’t go exactly as Meghan and Harry had hoped.
Find out about the peace offering that Markle and her husband tried to extend to Kate Middleton and Prince William. And see what went wrong. Get the latest news about Meghan Markle and Prince Harry below.
Meghan Markle And Prince Harry Want Royal Family Peace
The Duchess of Sussex and Duke of Sussex created a very specific agenda before they visited the UK for Queen Elizabeth’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations. And that agenda included offering an olive branch to Kate Middleton and Prince William. Meghan and Harry even included their children and his brother’s children in their scheme, insiders told Page Six.
Hoping to mend the rift between Harry and William, the Sussex family decided to arrange a birthday party for their daughter Lilibet. And their guest list included the Duke of Cambridge, the Duchess of Cambridge, and all their children. Meghan and Harry had hoped that mingling their children in a party atmosphere would serve as an olive branch to William.
And Prince Harry and Meghan Markle did hold Lilibet’s first birthday party. But William and Kate did not attend. The Sussex family celebrated the little girl’s birthday at their UK home, Frogmore Cottage, in Windsor. And at the same time, the Cambridge clan headed off to Wales. As a result, that olive branch seemingly got rejected.
Olive Branch Gesture Ends In Disappointment
Meghan Markle and Prince Harry had envisioned their son Archie, age 3, and daughter Lili, age 1, finally meeting their cousins George, Louis, and Charlotte. But Kate and William took two of their children, 8-year-old Prince George and 7-year-old Princess Charlotte, with them to Wales. As a result, Harry and Meghan along with their children did not achieve any private time with William, Kate, and their three kids.
As for why William seemed to avoid meeting with Harry and his family? A royal family insider offered some speculation. “Things are still fraught,” summed up the source. For instance, the Duke of Cambridge worries that whatever he tells his brother could end up in the media. As a result, “William is still wary of spending any time alone with Harry as you never quite know what may be reported back afterwards,” added the source. And so the disappointed Duke of Sussex, Duchess of Sussex, and their children exited the UK even before the People’s Pageant began to fly home to California.
