Meghan Markle’s Podcast Series Set to Launch This Summer
It’s been 18 months since Meghan Markle and husband Harry first announced that they signed a reported £18 million deal to produce podcasts and audio content for the streaming platform Spotify.
Despite delays and disagreements, a podcast series hosted by Meghan Markle will be arriving this summer as the Queen’s official Jubilee celebrations kick off.
Meghan Markle’s Podcast to be “Rooted in Strong Principles”
The news of the Duchess of Sussex launching her podcast series comes as she and Harry’s Archewell Foundation said that the couple are motivated to use their platform to “tackle the misinformation era”.
Meghan and Harry previously called out Joe Rogan for spreading Covid misinformation to the millions of people who listen to his podcast: the Joe Rogan Experience. They also asked Spotify to stop people like Rogan from using their massive platform to spread lies.
Regarding the reason behind the Sussexes’ podcast series, the Archewell Foundation said in a statement on Thursday, March 17: “As we all continue to tackle the misinformation era, Archewell Audio [the production company started by Harry and Meghan] has found it important to work with our partners at Spotify to ensure that the digital technologies so many of us use every day are rooted in strong principles of trust and safety.”
The announcement continued: “We are encouraged by ongoing conversations we’ve had with Spotify on this shared goal and have been working closely with their team – as well as their senior leadership – towards policies, practices, and strategies meant to raise creator awareness, minimise the spread of misinformation, and support transparency.
Meghan and Harry’s partnership with Spotify was first announced in December 2020
“As we move forward at Archewell Audio, we too are eager to be responsible stewards of an audio landscape that is well-resourced with quality, fact-based information – particularly when it comes to public health.”
Meghan and Harry’s partnership with Spotify was first announced in December 2020, a few months after the two permanently stepped down as working members of the Royal Family.
At the moment, little is known about Meghan’s podcast, but experts are predicting it could feature topics like racism, misogyny and female empowerment. Powerful public figures could possibly be featured in each of the podcast’s episodes.
Rumored guests include “Spider-Man” star Zendaya and “Halo” singer Beyoncé.
