Prince Andrew will Appear in Court Like Any Ordinary Citizen as Queen Strips His Military Titles
It’s official! The Palace has announced Queen Elizabeth’s decision to strip her third child, Prince Andrew, of his military titles. This is coming after Andrew’s NYC lawsuit was allowed to continue, making it definite that Andrew will appear in court.
In a statement released after the ruling, his team announced that they’ll keep fighting Giuffre’s claims.
Prince Andrew Loses His Titles Ahead of Court Appearance
As of January 13, the Duke of York will no longer be styled as “His Royal Highness” in any official capacity.
Though Andrew stepped down from his public duties and constantly kept himself out of the spotlight since 2019, he still retained his military titles, thus leaving eight British regiments in limbo more than two years on.
Buckingham Palace released a statement confirming the Duke’s dismissal: “With the Queen’s approval and agreement, the Duke of York’s military affiliations and Royal patronages have been returned to the Queen.
The Duke of York will continue not to undertake any public duties and is defending this case as a private citizen.”
What Titles Did Andrew Lose
Ahead of the Palace’s announcement, media sources had learned that Armed Forces veterans have been agitating for Andrew to be stripped of his titles and have even sent an open letter to the head of state.
The group was reportedly coordinated by Graham Smith of the campaign group Republic.
The titles and honors Andrew lost included Colonel of the Grenadier Guards, Honorary air commodore of RAF Lossiemouth and Deputy colonel-in-chief of The Royal Lancers (Queen Elizabeth’s Own).
His Royal patronages have also been taken away, as there were complaints that his association with the charity organizations has become detrimental to their image.
In the aftermath, a source close to the Duke disclosed that the lawsuit “is a marathon not a sprint and the Duke will continue to defend himself against these claims.”
