Royal Family News: Prince Harry and Meghan Markle Have Demands
Royal Family news and updates reveal that, according to Daily Record, though the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have confirmed receipt of their invitation to the historic event, they’ve yet to say whether they’ll be showing up. It is now being reported that they are in “tense talks’ with The Firm over “demands” and “conditions” they have before they’ll say one way or another.
According to The Sun US, an insider has revealed that a major concern for the couple is whether their children Archie, 3, and Lilibet, 1, will be included in the celebrations. The Sun reports that palace insiders are in fear that these talks could plunge the Coronation into chaos.
What Happens if Prince Harry and Meghan Markle Balk?
The source reportedly claimed that having Archie and Lilibet at the ceremony had “never been a bone of contention” because small children don’t traditionally attend such events “due to restlessness and tantrums.” The insider continued, “The Palace are trying to wrap up negotiations as quickly as possible because they can’t go right up to the wire. It could lead to chaos. It could very well be that it ends in stalemate, and they won’t attend. But the Palace is doing everything in its power to not let that happen.
“However, what the Sussexes are pushing for is for them to be included with the rest of the family at the Palace later that day. It’s also Prince Archie’s birthday on Coronation day so they would like some kind of nod to that at a lunch or drinks reception. Even if it’s just a happy birthday mention.”
Who Else Will Attend King Charles III’s Coronation?
In keeping with tradition, it’s expected that members of foreign Royal Families should also receive invitations. Prince Albert of Monaco has spoken about attending the event revealing that he and his wife Charlene will “definitely go” to the Coronation on May 6.
The Telegraph previously reported that a mere 20 MPs and 20 peers will be attending the Coronation. Though it is still unknown whether spouses will attend, we can expect that Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, as well as former PMs such as Tony Blair, Boris Johnson, and Gordon Brown will be showing up at the event.
