Prince Harry and Meghan Markle “Fail” to Deliver on Their “Promise” to Netflix and Spotify
Royal expert Daniela Elser recently penned an article for New Zealand Herald exploring Meghan and Harry’s continued lack of shows for the streaming giants of America.
The royal writer opined that they’re failing to deliver on their promise to both Netflix and Spotify.
Ms. Elser also questioned whether the shows already announced by the Sussex couple are good enough to set “Hollywood on fire”.
What’s Going On with the Sussexes’ Business Marriage with Netflix and Spotify
A few months after their exit from royal life, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex signed lucrative multi-million dollar deals with Netflix and Spotify.
Since then, Netflix has seen no return on their investment and Spotify has only seen a short Christmas special broadcast by the pair in late 2020.
However, the parents of two have announced that they’re working on two projects for Netflix. One of them, announced by Harry, is a documentary that will explore the lives of the veterans who take part in the Invictus Games. The second one is an animated series about a young girl named Pearl, who is inspired by accomplished women in history. The animated series was announced by Meghan’s team.
When the Duke and Duchess of Sussex signed the agreement, they promised to keep their “independence”, even as a married couple.
A couple of months after the pair announced their Netflix projects, royal writer Daniela Elser publicly questioned whether the projects are good enough to justify their partnership with Netflix.
Writing for the New Zealand Herald, Ms. Elser said: “More than 14 months ago, in September 2020, when their money-making marriage with the streaming was first revealed, they loftily promised they would be making ‘content that informs but also gives hope’. Goodo then, but where is it?”
Even if they do deliver the projects they’ve already announced, Elser is not convinced that it’ll be that much of a hit with the audience.
Ms. Elser wrote: “These might both prove to be touching and powerful shows but on paper they don’t exactly sound like they will be setting viewers or Hollywood on fire.”
