Prince Harry Pledges $1.5 Million Of Memoir Proceeds To Charity
The royal news and updates tease that Prince Harry has promised to give $1.5 million from the proceeds of his memoir to an organization close to his heart. Part of the sales from his book will go to Sentebale, which he and Prince Seeiso founded.
Spare, which is the title of the Duke of Sussex’s memoir, is set to be released to the public on January 10, 2023. It contains 416 pages that tell his story with “raw, unflinching honesty.”
The book’s publisher is Penguin Random House. The publisher said in a statement that the royal’s memoir is a “landmark publication full of insight, revelation, self-examination, and hard-won wisdom about the eternal power of love over grief.”
Prince Harry Announces His Commitment
Prince Harry announced his commitment to giving the proceeds of his book and audiobook to charity during a polo match benefiting Sentebale in Aspen, Colorado, back in August 2021. He founded the organization with Prince Seeiso of Lesotho in 2006, and their aim was to help HIV-infected kids in Africa.
“This is one of several donations I plan to make to charitable organizations, and I’m grateful to be able to give back in this way for the children and communities who gravely need it,” Prince Harry said.
The charity is grateful for Prince Harry’s commitment. The organization said in a statement that the Duke of Sussex’s personal contribution would help them continue their operation at full scale and provide services to children who are at risk in Southern Africa.
Other Commitments
But it’s not just Sentebale. According to Spare’s official website, Prince Harry also intends to donate £300,000 to WellChild, which supports families with kids who are seriously ill.
The book was supposed to be released later this year. However, it was delayed after the death of Queen Elizabeth. PEOPLE confirmed that Prince Harry would acknowledge the passing of the late monarch in his memoir.
Did Prince Harry and Meghan Markle Betray King Charles III?
A royal author said that King Charles III isn’t excited about Prince Harry’s upcoming book. Christopher Andersen, the author of The King, said that the King considers Prince Harry’s memoir and the statements made by Meghan Markle as a betrayal. He said that the King and Camilla are terrified about what Prince Harry may reveal in his book, probably because his memoir also tackles his parents’ marriage and his upbringing.
