Royal Family news reveals that, according to Marie Claire, Prince Harry’s criticism of the monarchy has increased in recent months, with Harry getting his side of the story out there. The Duke of Sussex has detailed the hurt he and his wife Meghan Markle experienced while still in the Royal fold.
Notably, though, it’s not the first time it’s been mentioned as the subject was first broached in an Oprah Winfrey interview back in 2021. The glaring reality has surprised many people who have seen the duke and duchess as keen for their little ones to bear royal titles — the children officially became Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet earlier this month.
Why Did Prince Harry and Meghan Markle Give Kids Princely Titles?
Despite all of the complaints, however, for two royal commentators, it’s clear that Harry still wants to be part of the Royal Family. Though, he wants it to be different than it was for him growing up.
Royal commentator and co-host for the Pod Save the King podcast Zoe Forsey said, “This is a sign that Harry and Meghan want their children to still have those royal ties, which suggests that—however much they’ve criticized, what they’ve been through and their treatment—those links are still important to them” (per Express UK).
Does Prince Harry Still Long for Royal Family Association?
Forsey’s co-host Russell Myers agreed, saying, “I think Harry still longs for that association [with the Royal Family]. I think Harry said that, by his father’s own admission, he had failed him at certain points and perhaps he would have done things differently along the way.
But Harry longs for this association and he’s hoping that it can be different for his children. But by the same token, how can he think that when he believes the Royal Family is not changing its ways?”
Harry addressed this longing while promoting his memoir Spare, telling ITV’s Tom Bradby that he wanted reconciliation. “It never needed to get to this point. I’ve had conversations, I’ve written letters, I’ve written emails and everything.”
Will Prince Harry and Meghan Markle Attend Coronation?
The Sussexes have been officially invited to King Charles III’s coronation in May. Should they accept the invitation and attend, it could be a good opportunity for the couple to mend bridges, but the royal commentators don’t seem to be optimistic about it – in fact, no one has shown any optimism on that front.
