Queen Elizabeth Celebrates 70 Years on the Throne with a Cake and some HumorOn February 6, 1952, 25-year-old Elizabeth ascended the throne following the death of her father, George V, at age 57.

On February 6, 2022, she celebrated a milestone 70th year as the ruling monarch, becoming the only British monarch to stay 70 years on the throne.

While the official celebrations will be kicking off in June, Her Majesty had cake to commemorate the actual Accession Day. The 95-year-old appeared to be in top-notch health and livened up the day with some good humor.

Queen Elizabeth Jokes “I’ll put the Knife In”

Her Majesty was said to be in good health as she met with members of the Women’s Institute and local Norfolk charities on the eve of her Accession.

Celebrations were also held throughout the country the following Sunday as Brits celebrated their longest reigning monarch.

The Queen, as always, looked dapper in a blue Angela Kelly dress with decorative white flower patterns as she beamed at the reception which took place at Sandringham Ballroom.

She joked with the guests as she attempted to cut into the cake specially prepared by a Sandringham local in celebration of the milestone.

When told that the cake was turned upside down for the photographers to get a good shot of it, she joked: “I don’t matter?”

Her Majesty also left her guests laughing when she joked that “I’ll put the knife in, see if it works”. After successfully putting the knife in, she added, “Somebody else can finish it off”.

At the event, she walked around with her trademark black handbag and occasionally used a wooden working stick during the event.

After her health scare last year, it was a welcome relief to royal fans to see her in such good spirits. Yvonne Browne, vice-president of the WI to Her Majesty, who is the president, remarked on the monarch’s good health saying, “She seemed great, she was in sparkling form and we had a good chat about what we have and haven’t done during Covid.”

Guests at the event also included Angela Wood, who helped in the creation of the original Coronation Chicken.
