Queen Returns to Windsor Castle as Summer Break at Balmoral Castle Officially Ends
Queen Elizabeth spent two months at her holiday home, Balmoral Castle. At that time, the monarch’s official duties were cleared as she was on break. She returned to her official duties when she opened the sixth session of Scottish parliament at Holyrood.
Queen Elizabeth to Attend a Number of Engagements in the Coming Months
The monarch, 95, has officially ended her summer break at the Aberdeenshire estate and returned to Windsor Castle on Saturday afternoon, according to the court circular.
Queen Elizabeth began staying at her Scottish resident on July 23, and during that time, she was visited by many members of the royal family, including the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, Lady Louise, and Princess Eugenie, Jack Brooksbank, and their baby son August.
The Queen starts off the Scotish Parliament
Her first public engagement since her summer break involved opening parliament at Holyrood alongside the Duke and Duchess of Cornwall, who are both known as the Duke and Duchess of Rothesay in Scotland.
The Queen also honored the Scottish people who showed exemplary service in their communities during the global pandemic.
On Saturday, she opened the Scottish parliament like she has done every year since 1999. She also delivered a moving speech at the debating chamber, reminiscing about her husband of 73 years who passed away in April of this year.
The Queens Calendar
On the previous Friday, she was joined by Prince Charles as they marked the start of the official tree planting season for the Queen’s Green Canopy.
The plant a tree challenge is done in anticipation of Queen Elizabeth’s milestone platinum anniversary taking place in June 2022.
On Tuesday, October 5, the Sovereign will be accompanied by her youngest child, the Earl of Wessex, at Buckingham Palace, to launch the Queen’s Baton Relay for the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games.
Her Majesty has been mostly residing at Buckingham Palace for the past 18 months. For many months, the Queen’s engagements were carried out with video or telephone calls, and after getting her vaccine jab, she resumed carrying out in-person engagements again in March.
On October 12, the Princess Royal, along with Her Majesty, will attend a service of Thanksgiving at Westminster Abbey to mark the centenary of the Royal British Legion.
On October 19, the Queen will host a reception at Windsor Park to mark the Global Investment Summit.
