The Queen Decided To Skip The National Service of Thanksgiving
The palace announced that Queen Elizabeth would be taking a break from celebrating her Platinum Jubilee. The palace said her majesty experienced “some discomfort” after a long day of Trooping the Colour celebrations.
According to a Buckingham Palace spokesperson “The Queen greatly enjoyed today’s Birthday Parade and Flypast but did experience some discomfort.”
The Queen attended the beacon lighting ceremony that took place on Thursday evening. However, she skipped the national service of thanksgiving that was held at St. Paul’s Cathedral the following day.
According to the statement, the Queen reluctantly decided not to attend the service. Some people believed that she had some mobility problems during the daytime events. But she was excited to watch the Beacon lighting event at Windsor Castle. Her Majesty also thanked everyone who came for making the event a memorable one.
The Queen Meets Lilibet For The First Time
Sources say that The Queen met Lilibet Mountbatten Windsor for the first time. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle along with their two children attended the monarch’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations.
The co-author of Finding Freedom, Omid Scobie, said that the royal couple introduced their youngest child to the Queen last Thursday. The meeting between the two got delayed because of the pandemic.
Their meeting took place ahead of Lilibet’s first birthday, on June 4.
“I think people are expecting some sort of big birthday extravagant event, that we’re going to see photographs from. From what I’m told, we shouldn’t expect anything,” Scobie explained.
Prince Harry, Meghan Markle, and their kids are currently staying at Frogmore Cottage. They are trying to keep a low profile throughout their trip to the UK.
“It’s almost hard to believe, but I think yesterday Trooping the Colour was a great example. We didn’t really catch sight of them on TV cameras,” Scobie said.
