Royal Family News: King Charles Brings Prince Andrew Along for Christmas Day Church Outing
Royal Family news reveals that Prince Andrew joined King Charles and other family members for their traditional Christmas Day church outing. Read on and we’ll fill you in on the details.
Royal Family News: Sarah Ferguson Calls for Unity, Forgiveness
Royal Family news reveals that, per PEOPLE, despite Prince Andrew being forced back as a working royal in 2019, King Charles invited him to accompany the rest of the Royal Family on the annual Christmas Day Church outing. Newsweek reports that, a few hours before the outing, Sarah Ferguson put out a call for “forgiveness” and “family unity” through a video clip via her charity, Sarah’s Trust.
On Sunday, via social media channels, Sarah’s Trust released a video and in it, the Duchess of York referenced forgiveness which, we can only assume was referring to her ex-husband Prince Andrew. The 62-year-old Duke of York walked with the family as they strolled to the church and spoke with the priest in the wake of the service.
The video was captioned simply “From all of us at Sarah’s Trust, we would like to wish you a wonderful Christmas and blessed new year.” Andrew’s two daughters — Princess Beatrice and Eugenie — joined the family on the Christmas outing with their husbands. Beatrice was also reportedly joined by her husband’s son from another marriage, Christopher Woolf.
Prince Andrew’s Disgrace
The disgraced Prince announced his decision to “step back from public duties” in 2019 in the wake of his interview with BBC Newsnight’s Emily Maitlis surrounding his ties to convicted financier Jeffrey Epstein. Then, in the following January, Queen Elizabeth stripped her son of his royal patronages and military titles amid a sexual assault lawsuit filed against him in which Virginia Guiffre alleged she was trafficked by Epstein and forced into sex with the duke at the age of 17.
Andrew has maintained his innocence though he agreed to an out-of-court settlement for an undisclosed amount in February 2022. The settlement presumably didn’t look good on a working royal with titles and patronages.
What Prince Andrew Has Left
The prince retained his Duke of York title and has remained in the line of succession to the throne where he is eighth in line behind his nephew Prince Harry, his wife Meghan Markle, and their two children. He was, however, stripped of his “His Royal Highness” style, at least in any official capacity.
Although the duke no longer has any official duties, he still attends family events. In March he attended the funeral of his late father Prince Phillip with his mother Queen Elizabeth walking alongside him, a move that made many royals uneasy.
