Royal Family News: King Charles First State Banquet as Sovereign
Royal Family news reveals, according to Tatler, that a date has been set for a first for Charles as the new sovereign. He’ll be attending the banquet with the new Prince and Princess of Wales at Buckingham Palace for a shimmering banquet in honor of President Cyril Ramaphosa of South Africa (via Town & Country).
The King and his wife, Camilla, Queen Consort will welcome the South African president from November 22-23. This morning Buckingham Palace announced the schedule for the long list of engagements which will allow the visiting president the opportunity to spend time with senior members of the British Royal Family including Prince William and his wife Princess Catherine.
A Very Glitzy Affair
Central to the visit will be the glittering state banquet which is set to take place on the night of November 22, a Tuesday. The event will be attended by Princess Anne as well as the Earl and Countess of Wessex, among others.
Royal watchers are surely anticipating the banquet as it is reportedly one of the rare moments when royal females will be wearing tiaras, making it an extra-glitzy affair. Tatler reports that the Princess of Wales has several invaluable tiaras, including The Queen Mary’s Lover’s Know tiara last worn by her during the state visit of the King and Queen of the Netherlands.
So Much to Do, So Little Time
President Ramaphosa will reportedly be arriving in the UK on Monday, November 21 to begin the first South African state visit to the UK since President Jacob Zuma visited nearly 13 years ago in 2010. Though he’ll be arriving on Monday, he won’t be formally welcomed by the Prince and Princess of Wales until the following day.
The royal couple will welcome the president on behalf of the King at the Corinthia Hotel in London which has seen famous people from Beyoncé to former president Bill Clinton. Will and Kate will travel with the president as he attends the Horse Guards Parade and receives the ceremonial welcome from Kind Charles and his wife Camilla at the Royal Pavillion.
In the evening, the King and Queen Consort will give the state banquet. This type of event is carried out with military precision. There are thousands of glasses and dishes laid out meticulously on the tables and the menu will be prepared by the finest chefs in the royal household.
