A Damaging and Malicious Lie

It’s notable though that there are some who’ve taken offense at the portrayals in The Crown. According to Hollywood Reporter, two-time Oscar winner, Dame Judi Dench has blasted the series for blurring “the lines between historical accuracy and crude sensationalism.”

In a letter she wrote to The Times of London, Dench praised The Crown but then expressed concern that the series was moving too quickly to the present day courting the danger of convincing viewers that the dramatization was a “wholly true” version of history. She took particular exception to the season’s implication that Charles plotted to oust his mother from the throne. She slammed the version of events as being “both cruelly unjust to the individuals and damaging to the institution they represent.”

Daily Mail reports that former UK prince Minister John Major is furious and has slammed the series for the “damaging and malicious lie” in which it portrayed then-prince Charles seeking to force his mother from the throne.
