Royal Family News: Prince Harry and Meghan Have An Invitation to Royal Family Christmas
Royal Family news reveals that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have a “standing invitation” to the Royal Family Christmas, but it doesn’t look like they will be showing up. Read on and we’ll give you the low down.
Royal Family News: Why on Earth Wouldn’t the Sussexes Show Up?
Royal Family news reveals that, according to Cosmopolitan magazine, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex aren’t likely to be showing up at any Royal Family event in the near future. The reason appears to be that Prince Harry’s tell-all book, Spare, is set to hit the shelves in January 2023 (via Marie Claire).
Multiple outlets are reporting that the royal couple isn’t expected to show up at Sandringham despite having been invited as the family’s anxiety levels over Spare are expected to be at peak levels by Christmas. This is also the first time in many decades that the Royal Family will celebrate Christmas without their beloved matriarch, Queen Elizabeth II.
The Spare Heir
The Sun reports that the Sussexes have no plans, as of yet, to return to the UK in December. Relations between the duke and duchess and the rest of the Royal Family are said to be “near rock bottom” as the impending release of the prince’s book looms over them.
To be fair though, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle haven’t spent Christmas at Sandringham in many years so, even without the prince’s bombshell book, it would not likely be happening. The book’s irrefragable title, Spare, refers to Prince Harry’s low position in the line of succession: the “spare heir,” if you will.
King Charles III Seeks to Maintain Continuity
King Charles III is reportedly following Royal family tradition and will be hosting the Royal Family at Sandringham in the same place Queen Elizabeth II typically gathered royals for the holiday. The Daily Beast reports that the Sussexes are most certainly on the guest list for the holidays, but reports are saying that literally no one expects them to show up.
A friend of King Charles and his wife Queen Consort Camilla reportedly explained, “Obviously [King Charles’] sons have a standing invitation, but the reality is that no one is expecting Harry and Meghan to fly over, given that his book is hanging over everything.”
A Strange Time for the Royal Family
It is worth noting that, even if Harry and Meghan showed up, and even without everyone trying awkwardly to avoid broaching subjects that could lead to Spare talk, the season will still have a weird vibe as it will be the first season all of the remaining royals have spent without the late Queen.
“It will be very strange for the family to be at Sandringham without the queen at Christmas,” the source added, “however the past two years have been fairly strange because of COVID, so at this stage they are just hoping, like everyone else, that a big gathering can go ahead.”
