Royal Family News: Prince Harry and Meghan Markle Officially Off Social Media for 2 Years!
On a Wednesday, March 30, two years ago, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle Departed social media, making their last post via Instagram.
Per a report from Newsweek, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have been strong advocates for internet safety. The pair have supported taking measures to reduce the unsolicited hate and abuse that abounds on many social media platforms. Royal Family News: Sussexes Focus on ‘New Chapter’
When the royal couple decided to pause their social media life, they explained that they would be concentrating on “a new chapter” in their lives following the COVID-19 outbreak and their departure from royal duties. They told royals fans that “what’s most important right now is the health and wellbeing of everyone across the globe and finding solutions for the many issues that have presented themselves as a result of this pandemic.”
Addressing the reason for the social media departure the post went on to say, “as we all find the part we are to play in this global shift and changing of habits, we are focusing this new chapter to understand how we can best contribute.”
Royal Family News: A More ‘Official’ Statement
A more official statement reported in Town & Country at the time read, “Following today’s post, The Duke and Duchess of Sussex will no longer post on Instagram under the @sussexroyal handle and will also no longer update SussexRoyal.com website.”
“Both the Instagram account and website will remain in existence online for the foreseeable future, although they will be inactive,” the statement concluded. And, true to form, there has been no activity on the part of the Sussexes since that day.
Royal Family News: What’s Next?
Before her marriage to Prince Harry, Meghan Markle was an active influencer, maintaining successful social media accounts, across several social media platforms that including her blog, The Tig, as well as her personal Instagram page.
Up until 2019, the pair shared an Instagram account with Prince Harry’s brother Prince William and his wife Kate Middleton, before setting up their own account, @sussexroyal in April of 2020. After Harry and Meghan stepped down from their royal roles, they agreed to stop using the term “sussexroyal” to prevent the assumption that the couple was trying to profit from their royal association.
