Royal Family news reveals that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle initially wanted a “suite of apartments” at Windsor Castle and unfortunately, they had to settle for Frogmore a royal author has said. Read on and we’ll give you the low down.
Royal Family News: They Wanted a Suite, Got a Cottage Instead
Royal Family news reveals that though the Sussexes had their sights on a suite of apartments are Windsor with the Queen, it was “a big deal” when the monarch offered them Frogmore instead, per Page Six. Yes, they didn’t get the sprawling palatial home that had hoped for, writes royal expert Katie Nichol in her new book, “The New Royals.”
The duke and duchess had been reportedly hoping for a “suite of apartments at Windsor Castle,” and, obviously, the Queen had different plans. The royal couple was offered Windsor Great Park’s Frogmore Cottage instead. They still retain the home to this day, having loaned it to Princess Eugenie and her family for some time now.
Frogmore Cottage: A Big Deal
The late Queen’s cousin Lady Elizabeth Anson reportedly told Nicholl (per Daily Mail) “The cottage was a big deal,” adding, “The Queen’s entrance into the gardens is right next to their cottage. It is essentially her backyard, her solitude, and her privacy. She was giving that up in gifting Harry and Meghan Frogmore Cottage. We all thought it was very big of her. She said, ‘I hope they’ll respect it.’”
According to Cosmopolitan, the couple moved into the cottage in April 2019, and though they eventually stepped down as working royals and moved their young family from Britain across the pond to California, they held on to the Frogmore as their UK home. In fact, Frogmore is where the Sussexes stayed following Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral while they mourned her loss.
Someone’s Getting a Bump, It’s Not the Sussexes
Windsor Castle, on the other hand, is expected to soon house Prince William and Kate Middleton, who have since been promoted to Prince and Princess of Wales, respectively. They also have a home just a few miles from the Duke and Duchess of Sussex called Adelaide Cottage.
Only time will tell how everyone is going to settle into their new roles and housing in the future. Chances are you can expect a lot of waves to be made, probably from the Sussex’s as usually seems to be the case.
Yet, it is still sincerely hoped by many that the two brothers Harry and William with repair their broken relationship and get on with the family thing. Be sure and stay up to speed on this and all royal stories. Return here often for more Royal Family news and updates.
