Now the Duke of Sussex has filed a second lawsuit against the same Home Office and tagged on a second defendant, the Metropolitan Police, according to Newsweek. The new lawsuit will reportedly focus on a January 2022 decision, by the Royalty and VIP Executive Committee (RAVEC), which stipulated that individuals should not be allowed to pay for police protection privately.
Tension Between Sussexes and Queen’s Private Secretary
An official from the Judicial Office told the Mirror that the case is still in the early stages and that ” no hearings have been listed yet and no decisions have been made.” An expert told Newsweek that, should the prince win, the case could potentially pave the way for a wider crop of rich and famous folks to file similar security-related claims against the British government.
The revelation of these new proceedings – which emerged on Meghan Markle’s birthday – reportedly runs the risk of raising tensions between the Sussexes and the Royal Family. According to Daily Mail, the current claims being laid out in the lawsuit indicate that the Queen’s Private Secretary, Sir Edward Young, was involved in the contended decision. Harry’s legal team said that “significant tensions” are said to have existed between Young and Harry.
