Royal Family News: Prince Harry & Meghan Mocked in Media for Ukraine Support
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle were mocked, via certain media outlets, for saying they stand with Ukraine. Prince William and Kate Middleton, on the other hand, were praised, by the same outlets, for a very similar message.
According to Newsweek, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex wasted little time in expressing solidarity with Ukraine as Russia launched a many-tiered assault on the beleaguered country. Harry and Meghan condemned Vladimir Putin for “breach of international and humanitarian law” but were met with mockery by some. Keep reading and we’ll fill you in on details.
Royal Family News: Critics Imply Sussex’s Statement Was Weak
In their statement, Harry and Meghan wrote “Prince Harry and Meghan, The Duke and Duchess of Sussex and all of us at Archewell stand with the people of Ukraine against this breach of international and humanitarian law and encourage the global community and its leaders to do the same.”
Royal critic and columnist for The Sun and New York Post, Piers Morgan, was the first to mock the couple’s efforts, tweeting sarcastically, “This will really rattle Putin.” Even the editor for the Daily Mail, Richard Eden, joined in on the razzing, tweeting, “It’s all over for Putin…”
The far-right wing news outlet didn’t stop there, publishing a story whose headline read, “Putin is shaking in his boots! Twitter users remark on Harry and Meghan’s defiant statement that they stand with the people of Ukraine.”
Royal Family News: Same Critics Heap Praise on William and Kate for Similar Statement
Though Prince William and Kate Middleton posted a very similar message days after the Sussex’s message, those same media outlets that derided Harry and Meghan appeared to heap praise on William and Kate. In fact, the headlines for the Cambridge’s might have you believe that Harry and Meghan never even made a statement.
The Daily Mail headline read, “Today we stand with the President and all of Ukraine’: William and Kate tweet support for Kyiv in a rare political comment as Cambridges recall the ‘privilege’ of meeting President Zelensky and his wife in 2020.” In similar fashion, The Sun’s headline read, “SHOW OF SOLIDARITY Prince William and Kate Middleton ‘stand with people of Ukraine’ as they ‘fight for their future’ in Russian invasion.”
Royal Family News: Not Everyone Mocked the Sussexes
Other pundits hit Twitter with more mockery for the estranged royals. “Harry and Meghan have released a statement on Ukraine. It’s over for Putin now,” tweeted a host of GB News, Darren Grimes.
British Journalist and broadcast commentator Mike Graham tweeted, “#HarryandMeghan manage to brave the public eye and the prying eyes of the media to accept an award. So brave. So stunning. #Planks” falling short of mocking the royal couple. Be sure and keep up with Royal Family News and return here often for more spoilers, news, and updates.
