Royal Family News: Prince William and Kate Middleton’s Viral Breakup Story, Fake News
As if the Cambridges haven’t had enough PR problems already this year, now Prince William and Kate Middleton are having to fend off rumors they’re breaking up.
According to Newsweek the story was first picked up on MSN and proceeded to spread quickly from there. Continue reading and we’ll fill you in on the details.
Royal Family News – No Indication of Strain in Cambridge’s Marriage
As royal fans will surely know, there has been no indication of problems between the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, and they appeared happy together while visiting Scotland on Wednesday, May 11.
Unfortunately, an article picked up by French-language publication, Oh My Mag falsely suggested that Kate Middleton walked out on the Cambridge’s three children, the website’s publisher told Newsweek. MSN then ran a translated version on their website and, from there, it went viral.
A link to the story was shared with MSN’s 227,600 Twitter followers on May 17.
Royal Family News – Groupe Cerise Admits Story was False
Outrageous stories about various members of the royal family making their way into mainstream media aren’t uncommon but, what makes this story different is that MSN played a part in giving it wings, with the potential to reach a massive audience in Britain as well as America.
A spokesperson for Groupe Cerise, which owns Oh My Mag reportedly admitted that the piece was false and had been published by mistake. They informed Newsweek that they were taking it down, “momentarily.”
Royal Family News – MSN Takes Down Its Iteration of the Fake News
After being approached by Newsweek on the matter, MSN eventually took their copy of the bogus article down. Newsweek reportedly reached out to Kensington Palace for comment but there has been no response yet.
William and Kate are not responding to the false reporting. They are, however, preparing to appear together on the red carpet at the premiere of Top Gun: Maverick at Leicester Square in London, on May 19.
Royal Family News – Will Cambridges Sue for Damages?
The false article mistakenly published by Oh My Mag was headlined: “Prince William and Kate Middleton separate as Duchess moves out with children,” and suggested that Kate had left with her kids, George, Charlotte, and Louis, and credited German website Schlager.de. for its content.
It is presently unclear whether the Cambridges will call on their lawyers over the ridiculously false rumor. Be sure and stay up to date on all Royal Family News and return here often for more spoilers, news, and updates.
