Royal Family News – Sussex Popularity Takes Hit After Oprah Interview
Prince Harry and the Duchess of Sussex’s approval rating dipped after they stepped down from royal life in February 2020 and it dropped much further following their explosive Oprah Winfrey interview in March 2021. At the time, there were signs that the ill feelings for the couple in the UK were fading after they made some public appearances in the fall of 2021, however, the approval slumped again in 2022.
As of this year, their biggest appearance came in June at the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations which, on the surface, gave the appearance that their reputations would receive a much-needed boost in the country they had left behind.
Royal Family News – Poles Show Harry and Meghan Receive only Minor Uptick After Jubilee
Unfortunately, since the event, polling shows only a minor uptick but Newsweek reports there could be reasons that bump in popularity might be more than it appears on the surface. Newly released data from YouGov shows that the prince was liked by 34 percent of adult Brits and disliked by 41 percent, which gives him a net approval of –7, up four points from the first quarter of 2022.
For her part, The Duchess of Sussex was liked by only 25 percent of adult Brits while a whopping 47 percent viewed her negatively, making her net approval a –22.
Royal Family News – Police Protection Row Didn’t Help
Of course, the data is based on rolling research conducted throughout March, April, and June. This means that some of the data will have been collected before the Sussex’s appearance at the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee, though the royal couple was also busy in April with a trip to the Netherlands for Harry’s Invictus Games.
This limited effect on their popularity comes after Harry’s legal roe over security concerns which ultimately led the Sussexes to cut their Jubilee visit short. Be sure and stay up to date on all Royal Family News and return here often for more news and updates.
