Royal Family News: Period of Mourning Begins

Royal Family news reveals that after spending the preceding week attending public engagements and ceremonies honoring Her Majesty’s legacy. Now the family goes into a period of mourning which is scheduled to span seven days following the funeral on September 19 according to the Royal family website.

Insider reports that, during this seven-day period, flags will be flown at half-mast at royal residences, and members of the public will be permitted to sign the royal Family’s online book of condolences. Though in mourning, some members of the Royal Family will still carry out engagements in the Queen’s honor.

King Charles III, Prince Harry, Meghan Markle, and Children

Following the funeral, King Charles III flew to Aberdeen, Scotland reports Sky News. It is thought that Charles and Camilla grieving in private in the Scottish Highlands. However, it is still unclear whether they returned to Balmoral in Aberdeenshire where the Queen was staying when she died, or traveled instead to Birkhall, their private holiday home at Balmoral Estate.

PEOPLE Magazine reports that Prince Harry and his wife Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, have returned to their home in Los Angeles, California following the Queen’s funeral. As Royal watchers know, the duke and duchess were already on a trip to the UK when the Queen passed away on September 8. Harry subsequently traveled to Scotland to be with the rest of the family.

Prince William, Kate Middleton, Other Royals

For most working royals, it will be a quick return to business as usual with many meeting with those involved with the planning and carrying out of Queen Elizabeth’s funeral, according to a Buckingham Palace press release.

Prince William and his wife Kate, Princess of Wales are in Windsor Thursday, meeting with staff and volunteers who were involved with the committal service for Her Majesty at St. George’s chapel on Monday.

Charle’s youngest brother Prince Edward traveled to Estonia on Wednesday night to prepare for Thursday meetings. On Thursday the prince is carrying out various royal engagements including a stop at the British embassy to view a condolence book for the monarch, and a meeting with staff involved with mourning arrangements in Estonia.
