Royal Family News: Duchess of York Joins Royals to Say Goodbye

Royal Family news reveals that the royals were united in their grief on Monday, September 8 as they all put their differences aside and came together for Queen Elizabeth II’s state funeral. Per Hello! Magazine, there were some 2,000 mourners at Westminster Abbey and one of them was Sarah Ferguson, known colloquially as “Fergie.” She is the ex of Prince Andrew and the mother of Princesses Eugenie and Beatrice.

The 62-year-old Duchess of York was seen at the funeral supporting her daughters while sitting behind Prince William and Kate Middleton.

The Most Incredible Mother-In-Law

Despite divorcing Prince Andrew some 25 years ago in 1996, Sarah has remained strongly affiliated with the Royal Family. In fact, she still lives with Andrew at The Royal Lodge in Windsor Great Park.

Fergie also remained close to her mother-in-law The Queen and thus was included in Monday’s somber affair. Even after her split with Andrew, the Queen would often invite the duchess to Balmoral Castle during her summer break there.

Sarah displayed the bond between then in the loving tribute she left on social media following the Queen’s death on September 8. It read, in part, “To me, she was the most incredible mother-in-law and friend.”

Touching Words from Sarah Fergusen

Fergie, 62, praised her mother-in-law on Twitter last week, writing, “I am heartbroken by the passing of Her Majesty the Queen. “She has given her whole life selflessly to the people of the UK & the Commonwealth. To me, she was the most incredible mother-in-law and friend. I will always be grateful to her for the generosity she showed me in remaining close to me even after my divorce.”

Fergie and the Queen Stayed Close Despite Prince Phillip

Fergie married Prince Andrew who is now 62, in 1986. The couple, who share the two daughters, announced their separation seven years later in 1992. The separation was plagued by scandal reports Page Six as Fergie was photographed having her toes sucked by her American Financial adviser John Bryan.

Fergie managed to remain close to the Queen despite the fact that Prince Phillip reportedly detested her. A source told the Telegraph, “The duchess bonded with Her Majesty over dog walking and riding horses, and even after her divorce, she would continue her great friendship with Her Majesty, by walking the dogs in Frogmore and chatting.” Be sure to stay up to speed on all things royal.
