Royal Family News: Queen’s Son Isn’t Happy
Royal Family news reveals that the Queen of Denmark announced this week that she stripped four of her grandchildren of their royal titles. This means that the youngers will no longer be known as prince or princess and, instead, have been downgraded to count or countess, according to Best Life Online.
The decision, however, has drawn indignation from the Queen’s youngest son who publicly criticized his mum over the change.
For Their Own Good
Thursday, September 29, the Queen slimmed down her Danish Royal Family stripping four out of her eight grandkids of their titles, reports Express UK. Denmark’s Queen Margrethe stripped four grandchildren of their royal titles to allow them to “shape their own existence.”
She said that she did it “for their own good” even though the kids themselves said they are “shocked, sad, and confused,” at the monarch’s decision.
Danish Palace Offers Explanation
The Danish Royal Palace said in a statement: “As of January 1, 2023, the descendants of His Royal Highness Prince Joachim will only be able to use their titles of Count and Countess of Monpezat, their previous titles of Prince and Princess of Denmark ceasing to exist.”
Queen Margrethe’s son, Prince Joachim of Denmark, 53, is father to the four children who lose their titles; Nikolai, Felix, Henrik, and Athena. The Palace went to explain the move, adding:
“With her decision, Her Majesty the Queen wants to create a framework for the four grandchildren, to a much greater degree, to be able to shape their own existence without being limited by the special considerations and obligations that a formal affiliation with the Royal House as an institution implies.
“The Queen’s decision is in line with similar changes that other royal houses have carried out in recent years in different ways.”
The Family Weighs In
Prince Nikolai told the Danish newspaper Extrabladet that he and his family were saddened by the Danish Patriarch’s decision.
“My whole family and I are of course very sad,” he said, adding, “We are, as my parents have also stated, in shock at this decision and at how quickly it has actually gone.”
The prince then added that he was “very confused” as to why his grandmother did what she did.
Countess Alexandra, mother to Nikolai and Prince Felix, also shared consternation over the decision. A representative for the countess said in a statement to CNN, “She can’t believe why and why now, because there’s no good reason. They would lose their titles anyway when they get married one day.
She added, “Her sons are young men so maybe they might get married in the near future so why shouldn’t it wait until that day so that the titles would disappear on a happy day?’”
