Royal Family News: The Duke and Duchess Will Share Frogmore with Princess Eugenie
After the Sussexes confirmed, recently, that they will indeed be attending Queen Elizabeth’s Platinum Jubilee in June, security measures fell into place in and around Frogmore Cottage. According to The Sun, the duke and duchess still pay the rent on the UK estate despite paying more than $13.5 million for their Los Angeles mansion.
At present, the cottage is occupied by Prince Andrew’s daughter and Harry’s cousin, Princess Eugenie, her husband, Jack Brooksbank, and their child, August. Expect the Sussexes to be staying in the guest rooms of the mansion when they arrive.
Royal Family News: Harry and Meghan Chose to Hold on to Frogmore for UK Home
Royals fans will recall that Harry also stayed at Frogmore Cottage when he returned to the UK for his grandfather Prince Phillip’s memorial service last April. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex lived in the estate Windsor home prior to stepping down from their royal duties and relocating to Markle’s home state of California in 2020.
However, it was understood at the time that, after having spent $3 million to renovate the home, the couple would continue to pay for it so that they could still have a home in the UK. Speaking on the matter of the home Buckingham Palace confirmed in 2020, “The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have shared their wish to repay Sovereign Grant expenditure for the refurbishment of Frogmore Cottage, which will remain their UK family home.”
Royal Family News: Sussexes Continue as Counselors of State
It was confirmed in February 2022 that the duke and duchess have renewed Frogmore Cottage’s lease despite still living in California with their two children, Archie and Lilibet. The Telegraph, which noted that the cottage’s lease was set to expire on March 31, said that the royal couple had renewed the lease so that they could continue serving as one of the Queen’s counselors of state.
