On Wednesday, March 16, Sophie attended a U.N. event in a black power suit, paired with a patterned salmon-colored shirt and heel shoes. Despite her minimal makeup, she looked polished with her hair packed behind her as she argued about the importance of upholding the rights of women in Afghanistan at the United Nations event in New York.

The event was held in order to highlight the importance of upholding women’s rights in Afghanistan. According to reports, since the Taliban came into power, notable women have gone missing in the country.

The hosts for the event are the Group of Friends of Women in Afghanistan and the Georgetown Institute for Women, Peace, and Security.

The conference brought together global leaders, experts and notable policy makers across countries and sectors. This is to provide a means to renew the United Nations’ efforts to ensure that impactful work is being done to uphold the human rights of Afghan women and girls in the region, in the face of the disastrous circumstances.

The mission is one that the Countess is deeply passionate about. She is looking forward to leading a change that will better the lives of women living in Afghanistan. According to her, “Sometimes being a royal and having your name in lights is more about your impact than your image”.

Her devotion to the cause has been strong since the humanitarian crisis took place in Afghanistan last year. In March 2021, she took part in the 65th Commission on the Status of Women, a virtual event held by the Afghanistan Mission, the Permanent Mission of Afghanistan to the U.N.
