The Queen to Mark an Upcoming Important Event in Sombre Recollection
This year marks a very important time for the Queen in her long reign and it’s definitely something to celebrate about, but the long road leading to this historic moment is said to be causing the Queen some sadness.
We’re just a few days away from rounding out Queen Elizabeth’s 70th year on the throne, but it’s still a day that marks the death of her father King George VI.
The Queen will also be predictably missing her husband, who she’s been happily married to for 73 years.
Queen Elizabeth to Spend this Year’s Ascension Day at Sandringham, Where Her Father Died
Her Majesty, 95, will reportedly be staying for an extended period of time at Sandringham for the first since the death of her husband Prince Philip, who died at age 99.
Regarding how the Queen will spend her time at the estate, a royal insider said: “The anniversary of the day she changed from Princess Elizabeth to Queen Elizabeth is obviously a very proud and important moment for her every year.
“This year she will mark 70 years on the throne and is very much looking forward to throwing a four-day party for the country in June.
The source also noted that Queen Elizabeth is attached to Sandringham because the most important turning point which defined the rest of her life took place there. “But the anniversary of the day she became Queen on February 6 in 1952 is also tinged with sadness as it was the moment she lost her father.
“The Queen always wants to be at Sandringham where he died and this year’s Accession Day is no different. She will be there at Sandringham. The Queen wants to spend it in sombre reflection.
“There will be a time for the nation and Queen to properly mark the milestone but it is important for her to be at Sandringham on Accession Day and mark it in private.”
Celebrations for the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee will officially kick off in June, over a four-day period. The events planned are expected to be “historic” and feature “a once in a generation” performances.
