UK Survey Names Queen Elizabeth Top Female Role Model of Past 100 Years
In recent UK survey, Queen Elizabeth II has been voted the most pivotal female role model of the past 100 years, according to Newsweek.
In a survey conducted by Good Housekeeping Magazine roughly 34 percent of voters chose the 96-year-old Monarch for having been the most influential woman in the survey. Royal Family News – Queen Delights Royals Fans with Jubilee Appearances
This survey comes as the Queen celebrates her historic Platinum Jubilee year which marks her 70th year as the Queen of England. The Queen celebrated her Jubilee last month, making her the only British sovereign to have reigned for 70 years.
Though the Queen has been suffering from ongoing mobility issues, during her Platinum Jubilee she filled royals fans with delight and hope appearing twice on Buckingham Palace’s balcony.
About the Survey
Editor-in-chief of Good Housekeeping Magazine, Gabby Huddart, said of the survey, “This is the biggest consumer survey we’ve ever conducted into attitudes and our mission was to capture the key developments in British history, culture and the home, according to British women.”
Huddart added, “It’s brought some wonderful findings to light, not least the fact that Queen Elizabeth II is considered the greatest influencer of our generation.” Interestingly, the survey also found that voters considered the internet to be the largest influence over modern life in the past 100 years.
Notably, according to Express UK, 21 percent of voters could not decide, and 13 percent of respondents voted for their own mothers or grandmothers. The survey of 2,451 women recognized English cook and television presenter Dalia Smith for having the greatest impact on cooking while recognizing Agatha Christie as the most impactful author. The washing machine won for being the greatest invention influencing home life.
Royal Family News – Queen Pledges to Continue to Serve
At the close of the Jubilee festivities, the Queen pledged to continue to serve “to the best of [her] ability supported by [her] family.” In a closing message, she said, “When it comes to how to mark seventy years as your Queen, there is no guidebook to follow. It really is a first.
“But I have been humbled and deeply touched that so many people have taken to the streets to celebrate my Platinum Jubilee.
“While I may not have attended every event in person, my heart has been with you all; and I remain committed to serving you to the best of my ability, supported by my family.”
