Last year, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle signed a multi-million dollar deal to produce content for Spotify through their Archewell Productions.
So far, only a 35-minute special recorded December last year is all the Sussexes have to show for the contract, and the people at Spotify are reportedly getting restless and are now “nudging” the couple to perform their end of the bargain.
Harry and Meghan to Work Harder if They Hope to Protect Their Lucrative Spotify Deal
Harry and Meghan are said to be working to protect their £18 million podcast deal after failing to produce any content this year. “Mystified” Spotify chiefs are bringing the heat on the couple for not announcing or releasing any new content this year.
All the Sussexes have to show for their multi-year contract is the solitary holiday special released last December. While there has been no news confirming the couple’s plans to produce another Christmas special this year, it is expected that there could be a follow-up episode. Who knows? We may even hear Lilibet in the new production.
In 2020, Spotify happily announced it was expecting a full-scale launch of content from the Duke and Duchess of Sussex throughout 2021.
The first show reportedly earned the royal pair £500,000 for each minute of production from the streaming platform.
For the couple to protect their multi-million dollar contract, the Archewell Brand will have to come up with more interesting contents.
One source said: “Spotify were delighted when they signed the couple, but the lack of content has mystified them. Particularly as they seem to have no problem producing content for other platforms.”
Another source clarified that “When Harry and Meghan signed the Spotify deal in December, they didn’t really have a full audio team behind them, there were no scripts ready and they hadn’t made podcasts before.
“The holiday special episode was whacked together but, even though it was well received by fans, it was hard for them to pull off.”
The couple have reportedly hired veteran podcast producer Rebecca Sanaes and they are rumored to be working on a new set of episodes to be released in time for Christmas this year.
Harry and Meghan Markle Must Meet Deadlines or Their Meal Money will be Taken Away
Legal experts are saying that Harry and Meghan will need to work fast to meet any deadlines stated in the contract or they could lose the highly enticing deal.
Alex Cook, Partner at Helix Law, a specialist litigation firm of solicitors, added: “It might be considered embarrassing for Harry, Megan and Spotify equally to air any dispute publicly and it wouldn’t be
surprising if there are private commercial arbitration clauses to manage any disputes between them all.”
Archewell Audio is yet to comment on the news.
