Will Prince Harry and Meghan Markle Make it to the Balcony for Coronation?
Royal Family news reveals that plans for King Charles III’s coronation were revealed this weekend and it appears that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle might not make it to the guest list in time.
Royal Family News: A Coronation Similar to Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee
Royal Family news reveals that, according to Marie Claire, many of the preparations for King Charles’ coronation — released this weekend — are very similar to Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee from last summer. This will include a big concert with a stellar, star-studded cast.
Communities throughout the UK are set to join in The Big Lunch. Also similar is the limiting of Buckingham Palace attendees to working royals only.
Will Non-Working Royals Be Banned from Palace Balcony?
Royal watchers may recall that, at the Jubilee, it was decided that only working members of the royal family would take part in the traditional Palace appearance. This decision eliminated the embattled Prince Andrew — no longer a working royal in the wake of his sexual assault scandal — as well as Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, who resigned as working royals back in January 2020 and relocated across the pond to California.
The King’s Coronation will likely go down much in the same way, even though Harry is His Majesty’s son. According to the Mirror, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are not likely to join attendees on the Buckingham Palace balcony after the Coronation ceremony as, much like Andrew, they no longer serve in an official capacity.
Will Prince Harry and Meghan Markle Even Attend?
With a slimmed-down version of the event, Charles’ focus will likely be aimed at working royals only. A senior royal insider has said that it will be “unlikely” that Harry and Meghan will be included in any major public appearances including at the balcony (The Mail on Sunday).
All that aside, it’s still anyone’s guess whether Harry and Meghan will even travel to the UK to attend the event at all, following the release of the Netflix docuseries “Harry & Meghan,” Harry’s memoir “Spare” and all the drama that has followed.
Sussexes Will Get an Invite But, Will They Show?
According to what royal expert Ingrid Seward told the Sun on Sunday, the Sussexes will probably be invited to the Coronation and Harry will likely attend as “how can you write a book about forgiveness and not turn up to your dad’s Coronation?” However, she said she wasn’t so sure about Meghan.
One thing we’re pretty sure of: if the prince does show up, Meghan is likely to be there as well. It’s Archie’s fourth birthday, after all. The Sussex family will likely be together for the date, May 6. Now, whether they’re by a pool in sunny California or on a balcony at Buckingham Palace is anyone’s guess. Is anyone taking this bet?
